Part1, quick sketches using different mediums

I decided to use some black card and white chalk to do a scribbly sketch of the ramie cloth to try and convey the lightness of the fibre with the contrasting use of white and black. I did not overthink the detailed shape of the cloth, it was a quick sketch showing the general shape which reminds me of seaweed and the coast. I plan to use some tracing paper or rice paper next to hightlight the lightness of the fabric with more detail.

I chose my notebook as my second item to sketch using a textured handmade paper and black marker and pencil to draw. I made hibiscus dye to highlight the string closing. I made the hibiscus dye by making a tea and added gum arabic to thicken the tea so it could be used as a water-colour style paint. It is drawn across two pages in my notebook, I love the sideways angle of the notebook in the photo and the scraps of paper and notes that are protruding from the side gives it depth and a sense of comfort. I enjoyed drawing on textured paper highlighting the texture of this handmade book, I think it give the viewer an idea of the texture and feel of the pages.

Silhouette on white card, pencil and coffee dye.

I chose the chrome squirrel to draw a very naive silhouette, I made a coffee water-colour to surround the simple shape to give a sense of nature,an Autumnal shade of brown brings a sense of calm and balance. I cut the page to a curve to give it more of a sense of silhouette,I found this exercise quite revealing for me and it gave me a sense of vulnerability as it is so simple and there is no where to hide when sketching a simple silhouette. I don't like it but will keep it on my learning log to see how my work develops.

No detail, showing two objects overlapping using a white pencil on black card.

A sheep postcard sitting (resting) on top of the dried fennel seed heads. I like the use of black and white as it highlights the general shape of the objects.

reflection:
I enjoyed working on different paper types and plan to experiment more with abstract shapes to express the mood and shape of the group of objects, also taking into account the 'feel' of the objects.
2. I will introduce some fibre to show the sheeps wild coat.
3. I also plan to look at more of the suggested mark making artists.
4. I plan to work on bigger sheets of paper.
